Listen, Respect, Advocate

Throughout the past 19 plus years, every morning when I enter my office, I hope and pray to have the wisdom to make a difference in the lives of others who seek my help. When studying physiology and anatomy in pharmacy school, I was always amazed at how complicated the human body is. On a molecular level, there are so many reaction, interactions, enzymes and chemicals involved that is mind boggling. What is more amazing is how complex the relationships between different organs of the body are. My primary focus has been taking care of women, mainly for Peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms due to hormonal changes but then again, I have to focus on the whole body. It’s important for me to learn about the journey that a person has taken until she has arrived at my door step.

In my office, stories are told that touch my heart. From being abused as a child to being in an abusive relationship, the stress of having troubled teenagers or adult children, dealing with a bitter divorce, grieving over the death of a loved one, regrets and betrayals. I hear more than just about physical pains and ailments. I have learned to laugh and to cry with my patients. I celebrate my patient’s happy moments and become a pillar to lean on during the times of need. All along, I have to remember to direct them towards better choices for their health.

A person in physical or emotional pain and/or distress needs a health care advocate. I strive to be the advocate by helping my patients understand that when it comes to their health, they have choices. The focus of my practice is Menopause, Andropause (male menopause), Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Non-Hormonal approaches to managing symptoms, Adrenal fatigue syndrome, Thyroid imbalances, Vitamins and supplements and even ways to look and feel younger.

Through my blog, I will discuss the conditions listed above and more. And please let me know if there are topics that you would like to be discussed.

Today’s pearl: Did you know what triggers your hot flashes and night sweats? Caffeine, Alcohol, Sugars, Spicy foods and Stress are some of the main triggers. What are your triggers?

P.S. I found an informative blog about bone health. Check it out at Bring On The Magic llc
